June Rockfest

Our biggest night yet!
We made $516 profit from sales, and a further $54.20 in donations. So all up an extremely awesome $570.20 goes into the UK fund.
To put it in perspective, at the last Rockfest we banked only $360 (which included a $100 bonus donated by Redman) and the one before that we made only about $200. So tonight we made more than on the other two nights combined.

Many thanks to Kat, who was in there virtually all night, Preety, Stacey and Pat who were there for most of it, and Kirsten who popped in and out at various times.
Also many thanks to the following non-redbackers who helped out through sheer niceness:
Sam Hartley
Alex Sherif
Nikki Rodgers
and Kristine Rodgers
(sorry if I missed anyone)

Next up is Jericho, next Saturday night (June 30th)
I know there are a few regulars unavailable due to Ashlee's birthday, so anyone who CAN help out would be much appreciated!!!!

After that, on July 8, it's our first Bunnings BBQ...

Thank you, Sir. You also helped out so a big thanks to you.

What's "Jericho"?

Lol I just explained this in the yellbox.

Basically the same concept as Rockfest, but featuring bands with Christian influences.

Probably a bit less swearing, and I think a couple of singer-songwriter artists as well as the hardcore rock style.

Maybe a slightly older and less emo crowd too.

What do you mean by "Christian influences" Sir? And I commented BEFORE you explained it in the yellbox...i think lol

Yeah you did, but I read the yellbox and replied, then came in here and saw I had to do it again.

Um I'm not really sure what I mean by Christian influences. I think it's just the same as other music except that the people making it believe that their Christianity is a big influence on everything they do.

Without wanting to be offensive, it's a bit of a toss, in my opinion. Not their beliefs, but more their idea that it somehow makes them different from other musicians.

It would be different if it actually caused them to produce different music, but as far as I am aware that isn't the case - Jericho isn't going to be a bunch of people singing about god, just a bunch of people playing music, who happen to believe in god. So I don't really see the need for a separate night.

Redman's theory is that it's to get non-christian-music fans to stop stereotyping christian music and realise that they're just the same as ordinary rockfest bands...but while I agree with his aims, I'm not sure this is an effective way of doing it. I suspect non-christian-music-fans are just not going to turn up, exactly because of the stereotyping.

Much smarter to just include some of these bands on the Rockfest bill, so that they will naturally build up a non-christian fanbase just by playing their music.

But we'll see what happens...
