Boy comes to a town where music and dancing is banned.
Falls in love with Girl when he hears her secretly singing one night.
They start to sneak away whenever they can, to sing together.
Various townspeople become aware of their activities and are scandalised, but find themselves more and more fighting the urge to sing themselves.
Girl2 is part of the family Boy is now living with. She loves Boy, and when she discovers him with Girl, gets jealous. She dobs them in to the town’s mayor, and there is a confrontation. The mayor orders them to stop singing and threatens to send Boy away, but one by one the townspeople step forward and sing in defence of the couple. The mayor rushes around the stage trying to stop the outbreak of song, but in the end gives up and joins in for a final triumphant number.

Also... I was reading yesterdays paper and noticed that in the "Weekend" liftout, 'Angry of Berwick' wrote his opinion on musicals (he dislikes them intently) and there, on the right hand side of the page, was a cartoon of a billboard (and a strange looking hunchback person) that read:" "I hate musicals" the musical. Now showing..."
