Term 3 begins

Well nearly time to get back into it, boys and girls, and you better hang on cos it's going to be a BIG term.

Obviously there's the production going to be taking up a lot of time for a lot of us, closely followed by the Qld trip (and boy am I looking forward to that loooooong bus trip more and more every day).
But there is plenty else to keep us occupied as well. After much procrastination and foot-shuffling Redman and I are keen to get the UK proposal up for its final hurrah (one way or another) within the first few weeks of term, so there are travel agents to be contacted and submissions to write etc.

August 1 is the deadline set for entries in our short play festival - there has been some interest from outside Redback, and I know a couple of you are planning to have a crack at it yourselves. It's only a month away, so better get scribbling. If you aren't planning to have a go at writing something, maybe you need to ask yourself why not? Especially if you're a year 10, if there's one thing you should have learnt last semester it's the fact that you really ARE capable of creating good theatre. If all else fails, you have monologue scripts to get you started...

On the subject of the year 10s, we owe it to ourselves to get Quietus out on stage again. As I said, Mr Barry is keen on the senior students seeing it (what with them being all around P-plate age) and I think it's a great idea, so it's just a matter of figuring out how best to rig the hall with what lighting we have available. That's going to take some time, and some Mr De Kretser I suspect, so you may need to be patient with me on that one.

As far as our youth program goes, there is no doubt it was a success - maybe not to the extent we were hoping, but still the aim was to identify some likely types and we have certainly done that. Ms MacArthur's year 7 class were particularly taken by the in-school Quietus performance and are nagging her to write and perform their own plays, so I'm hoping to link that enthusiasm into our festival, and have offered your services to go into some of her English classes and run some workshops for them.

And finally, there is our Melbourne Show performance. I must admit I'd forgotten all about it until I wrote this, and since I was supposed to be emailing the guy a script and a description of who we are and what we do before finalising anything, I hope I haven't screwed up our opportunity. I'll get onto that ASAP, and let you know details when (if) they are settled.

All of this leads us onto the meeting schedule for this week. It's gonna be busy, folks. Tuesday is the first of the month anyway, so that will be a general meeting as normal. Any agenda items you want discussed you can pass on to me or Kat on Monday. I also want a 'constitutional meeting' of the founder-members, just to look at things 6 months on and see if anything needs to be changed or added, so that's likely to be Wednesday. Production cast can expect at least one meeting this week, and if you're Luke, Kirsten, or Terri, expect another, cos me and Redman need to discuss a few things with you. Anyone hoping to be backstage, you may get a callup too, although that's more likely to be next week.

Any questions?
No?
Good...
See you Monday...

Of Course there are questions!! And some statements. Firstly, I would like to say that I too can't wait for SYD/QLD, and the long bus ride, but I guess that's the best part...other than the theme parks.

Secondly, if it weren't for the year 10s, there wouldn't be theatre!! *hint hint...me* LoL...i got that from W&G, which I am disgusted that people at Ashley's party didn't know who they were (apart from Stash, of course). I may write a short play, but I don't know if I'd have any time.

Thirdly, I FORGOT ALL ABOUT THE SENIORS!!! But it would be good practice for us to perform in front of them. It would also be a good "preminition" to show them..with all the hooligans "dragging".

Fourthly, and lastly, I think the Melbourne Show is a good idea, and I hope we do get in, but do you know how many times (a day even) we'd be performing? (HA! That's a question for ya)

Oh and GO UK! As in "Let's go to the UK"...LoL...anyone watching Wimbledon? Go Hewitt! Go Sharapova! And did anyone watch the England v Portugal match? Whoa! is all I can say.

Cheers,
Pat

LoL...Oh Stashy.

Mr C, are you saying no to watching Wimbledon? Are you saying no to us that you won't tell us when (if we'd be performing) we will be performing, eg time. And, are you saying no to not watching the Portugal v England match?

I think I've made my point. LoL...have fun now....

Cheers,
Pat
